what he hath seen and heard--(See on Joh 3:11 and Joh 1:18). and no man receiveth, &c.--John's disciples had said, "All come to Him" (Joh 3:26). The Baptist here virtually says, Would it were so, but alas! they are next to "none" [BENGEL]. They were far readier to receive himself, and obliged him to say, I am not the Christ, and he seems pained at this.

Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, and yet you people do not accept our testimony.
No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything I have learned from My Father I have made known to you.
“I have much to say about you and much to judge. But the One who sent Me is truthful, and what I have heard from Him, I tell the world.”
He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
The Father loves the Son and shows Him all He does. And to your amazement, He will show Him even greater works than these.
Whoever accepts His testimony has certified that God is truthful.
Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

So John’s disciples came to him and said, “Look, Rabbi, the One who was with you beyond the Jordan, the One you testified about—He is baptizing, and everyone is going to Him.”
