Doch blieben sie längere Zeit daselbst und lehrten freimütig im Vertrauen auf den Herrn, der dem Wort seiner Gnade Zeugnis gab und Zeichen und Wunder durch ihre Hände geschehen ließ.

Long time therefore abode they--because in spite of opposition they were meeting with so much success. speaking boldly in the Lord--rather, "in dependence on the Lord," that is, on their glorified Head. who gave testimony to the word of his grace--a notable definition of the Gospel, whose whole burden is GRACE. and granted--"granting," that is, who confirmed the Gospel by granting miraculous attestation to it. (The "and" is wanting in the best manuscripts).
Quelle öffnen ↗We have, in this chapter, a further account of the progress of the gospel, by the ministry of Paul and Barnabas among the Gentiles; it goes on conquering and to conquer, yet meeting with opposition, as before, among the unbelieving Jews. Here is, I. Their successful preaching of the gospel for some time at Iconium, and their being driven thence by the violence of their persecutors, both Jews and Gentiles, and forced into the neighbouring countries (Act 14:1-7). II. Their healing a lame man at Lystra, and the profound veneration which the people conceived of them thereupon, which they had much ado to keep from running into an extreme (Act 14:8-18). III. The outrage of the people against Paul, at the instigation of the Jews, the effect of which was that they stoned him, as they thought, to death; but he was wonderfully restored to life (Act 14:19, Act 14:20). IV. The visit which Paul and Barnabas made to the churches which they had planted, to confirm them, and put them into order (Act 14:21-23). V. They return to Antioch, whence they were sent forth; the good they did by the way, and the report they made to the church of Antioch of their expedition, and, if I may so say, of the campaign they had made (Act 14:24-28).

sondern, wiewohl wir zuvor gelitten hatten und mißhandelt worden waren zu Philippi, wie ihr wisset, gewannen wir dennoch Freudigkeit in unsrem Gott, bei euch das Evangelium Gottes zu verkünden unter viel Kampf.
Ihr israelitischen Männer, höret diese Worte: Jesus von Nazareth, einen Mann, von Gott bei euch erwiesen durch Kräfte und Wunder und Zeichen, die Gott durch ihn tat, mitten unter euch, wie ihr selbst wisset;
Und wir sind Seine Zeugen dieser Tatsachen, und der heilige Geist, welchen Gott denen gegeben hat, die ihm gehorsam sind.
Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: Wenn ihr nicht Zeichen und Wunder sehet, so glaubet ihr nicht!
Da sprachen Paulus und Barnabas freimütig: Euch mußte das Wort Gottes zuerst gepredigt werden; da ihr es aber von euch stoßet und euch selbst des ewigen Lebens nicht würdig achtet, siehe, so wenden wir uns zu den Heiden.
