In conclusion, the Lord not only repeats His exhortation to firmness, but the promise that He gave in Jos 1:5 and Jos 1:6. "Have I not" (nonne) is a rhetorical mode of saying, "Behold, I have," the assurance being clothed in the form of an affirmative question. On the words "be not afraid," etc., see Deu 31:6 and Deu 31:8.
افتح المصدر ↗The book begins with the history, not of Joshua's life (many remarkable passages of that we had before in the books of Moses) but of his reign and government. In this chapter, I. God appoints him to the government in the stead of Moses, gives him an ample commission, full instructions, and great encouragements (Jos 1:1-9). II. He accepts the government, and addresses himself immediately to the business of it, giving orders to the officers of the people in general (Jos 1:10, Jos 1:11) and particularly to the two tribes and a half (Jos 1:12-15). III. The people agree to it, and take an oath of fealty to him (Jos 1:16-18). A reign which thus began with God could not but be honourable to the prince and comfortable to the subject. The last words of Moses are still verified, "Happy art thou, O Israel! Who is like unto thee, O people?" Deu 33:29.

In reassuring Joshua, God used his personal name the Lord (Hebrew Yahweh; see study note on Exod 3:15) to remind Joshua that the Lord was more powerful than any false gods the Canaanites might invoke. • your God is with you: God’s continuous presence made it possible for Joshua to heed God’s instruction.

وَالآنَ هكَذَا يَقُولُ الرَّبُّ، خَالِقُكَ يَا يَعْقُوبُ وَجَابِلُكَ يَا إِسْرَائِيلُ: «لاَ تَخَفْ لأَنِّي فَدَيْتُكَ. دَعَوْتُكَ بِاسْمِكَ. أَنْتَ لِي.
لاَ تَخَفْ فَإِنِّي مَعَكَ. مِنَ الْمَشْرِقِ آتِي بِنَسْلِكَ، وَمِنَ الْمَغْرِبِ أَجْمَعُكَ.
فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ الرَّبُّ وَقَالَ: «اذْهَبْ بِقُوَّتِكَ هذِهِ وَخَلِّصْ إِسْرَائِيلَ مِنْ كَفِّ مِدْيَانَ. أَمَا أَرْسَلْتُكَ؟»
فَأَجَابَهُمْ بُطْرُسُ وَيُوحَنَّا وَقَالاَ:«إِنْ كَانَ حَقًّا أَمَامَ اللهِ أَنْ نَسْمَعَ لَكُمْ أَكْثَرَ مِنَ اللهِ، فَاحْكُمُوا.
فَأَوْصَى أَبْشَالُومُ غِلْمَانَهُ قَائِلاً: «انْظُرُوا. مَتَى طَابَ قَلْبُ أَمْنُونَ بِالْخَمْرِ وَقُلْتُ لَكُمُ اضْرِبُوا أَمْنُونَ فَاقْتُلُوهُ. لاَ تَخَافُوا. أَلَيْسَ أَنِّي أَنَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ؟ فَتَشَدَّدُوا وَكُونُوا ذَوِي بَأْسٍ».
اِجْمَعُوا إِلَيَّ كُلَّ شُيُوخِ أَسْبَاطِكُمْ وَعُرَفَاءَكُمْ لأَنْطِقَ فِي مَسَامِعِهِمْ بِهذِهِ الْكَلِمَاتِ، وَأُشْهِدَ عَلَيْهِمِ السَّمَاءَ وَالأَرْضَ.
