وَمَاتَ ثُلْثُ الْخَلاَئِقِ الَّتِي فِي الْبَحْرِ الَّتِي لَهَا حَيَاةٌ، وَأُهْلِكَ ثُلْثُ السُّفُنِ.

The symbolical interpreters take the ships here to be churches. For the Greek here for ships is not the common one, but that used in the Gospels of the apostolic vessel in which Christ taught: and the first churches were in the shape of an inverted ship: and the Greek for destroyed is also used of heretical corruptings (Ti1 6:5).

Most expositors agree that the seven seals represent the interval between the apostle's time and the reign of Constantine, but that the seven trumpets are designed to represent the rise of antichrist, some time after the empire became Christian. In this chapter we have, I. The preface, or prelude, to the sounding of the trumpets (Rev 8:1-6). II. The sounding of four of the trumpets (Rev 8:7, etc.).

ثُمَّ سَكَبَ الْمَلاَكُ الثَّانِي جَامَهُ عَلَى الْبَحْرِ، فَصَارَ دَمًا كَدَمِ مَيِّتٍ. وَكُلُّ نَفْسٍ حَيَّةٍ مَاتَتْ فِي الْبَحْرِ.
فَبَوَّقَ الْمَلاَكُ الأَوَّلُ، فَحَدَثَ بَرَدٌ وَنَارٌ مَخْلُوطَانِ بِدَمٍ، وَأُلْقِيَا إِلَى الأَرْضِ، فَاحْتَرَقَ ثُلْثُ الأَشْجَارِ، وَاحْتَرَقَ كُلُّ عُشْبٍ أَخْضَرَ.
وَعَلَى كُلِّ سُفُنِ تَرْشِيشَ، وَعَلَى كُلِّ الأَعْلاَمِ الْبَهِجَةِ.
بِرِيحٍ شَرْقِيَّةٍ تَكْسِرُ سُفُنَ تَرْشِيشَ.
ثُمَّ بَوَّقَ الْمَلاَكُ الثَّالِثُ، فَسَقَطَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ كَوْكَبٌ عَظِيمٌ مُتَّقِدٌ كَمِصْبَاحٍ، وَوَقَعَ عَلَى ثُلْثِ الأَنْهَارِ وَعَلَى يَنَابِيع الْمِيَاهِ.
ثُمَّ بَوَّقَ الْمَلاَكُ الرَّابِعُ، فَضُرِبَ ثُلْثُ الشَّمْسِ وَثُلْثُ الْقَمَرِ وَثُلْثُ النُّجُومِ، حَتَّى يُظْلِمَ ثُلْثُهُنَّ، وَالنَّهَارُ لاَ يُضِيءُ ثُلْثُهُ، وَاللَّيْلُ كَذلِكَ.
وَيَكُونُ فِي كُلِّ الأَرْضِ، يَقُولُ الرَّبُّ، أَنَّ ثُلْثَيْنِ مِنْهَا يُقْطَعَانِ وَيَمُوتَانِ، وَالثُّلْثَ يَبْقَى فِيهَا.
وَمَاتَ السَّمَكُ الَّذِي فِي النَّهْرِ وَأَنْتَنَ النَّهْرُ، فَلَمْ يَقْدِرِ الْمِصْرِيُّونَ أَنْ يَشْرَبُوا مَاءً مِنَ النَّهْرِ. وَكَانَ الدَّمُ فِي كُلِّ أَرْضِ مِصْرَ.
وَحْيٌ مِنْ جِهَةِ صُورَ: وَلْوِلِي يَا سُفُنَ تَرْشِيشَ، لأَنَّهَا خَرِبَتْ حَتَّى لَيْسَ بَيْتٌ حَتَّى لَيْسَ مَدْخَلٌ. مِنْ أَرْضِ كِتِّيمَ أُعْلِنَ لَهُمْ.
