trumpet--to rouse attention, and herald God's approach (Exo 19:16). entreated that the word should not be spoken--literally, "that speech should not be added to them"; not that they refused to hear the word of God, but they wished that God should not Himself speak, but employ Moses as His mediating spokesman. "The voice of words" was the Decalogue, spoken by God Himself, a voice issuing forth, without any form being seen: after which "He added no more" (Deu 5:22).

From a greater example than he had yet mentioned, and that is Christ himself (Heb 12:1-3). II. From the gentle and gracious nature of the afflictions they endured in their Christian course (Heb 12:4-17). III. From the communion and conformity between the state of the gospel-church on earth and the triumphant church in heaven (Heb 12:18 to the end).

حَسَبَ كُلِّ مَا طَلَبْتَ مِنَ الرَّبِّ إِلهِكَ فِي حُورِيبَ يَوْمَ الاجْتِمَاعِ قَائِلاً: لاَ أَعُودُ أَسْمَعُ صَوْتَ الرَّبِّ إِلهِي وَلاَ أَرَى هذِهِ النَّارَ الْعَظِيمَةَ أَيْضًا لِئَلاَّ أَمُوتَ.
فِي لَحْظَةٍ فِي طَرْفَةِ عَيْنٍ، عِنْدَ الْبُوقِ الأَخِيرِ. فَإِنَّهُ سَيُبَوَّقُ، فَيُقَامُ الأَمْوَاتُ عَدِيمِي فَسَادٍ، وَنَحْنُ نَتَغَيَّرُ.
فَكَلَّمَكُمُ الرَّبُّ مِنْ وَسَطِ النَّارِ وَأَنْتُمْ سَامِعُونَ صَوْتَ كَلاَمٍ، وَلكِنْ لَمْ تَرَوْا صُورَةً بَلْ صَوْتًا.
فَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى: «هكَذَا تَقُولُ لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ: أَنْتُمْ رَأَيْتُمْ أَنَّنِي مِنَ السَّمَاءِ تَكَلَّمْتُ مَعَكُمْ.
هَلْ سَمِعَ شَعْبٌ صَوْتَ اللهِ يَتَكَلَّمُ مِنْ وَسَطِ النَّارِ كَمَا سَمِعْتَ أَنْتَ، وَعَاشَ؟
لأَنَّ الرَّبّ نََفْسَهُ بِهُتَافٍ، بِصَوْتِ رَئِيسِ مَلاَئِكَةٍ وَبُوقِ اللهِ، سَوْفَ يَنْزِلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَمْوَاتُ فِي الْمَسِيحِ سَيَقُومُونَ أَوَّلاً.
