The persecutions here referred to seem to have been endured by the Hebrew Christians at their first conversion, not only in Palestine, but also in Rome and elsewhere, the Jews in every city inciting the populace and the Roman authorities against Christians. gazing-stock--as in a theater (so the Greek): often used as the place of punishment in the presence of the assembled multitudes. فَإِنِّي أَرَى أَنَّ اللهَ أَبْرَزَنَا نَحْنُ الرُّسُلَ آخِرِينَ، كَأَنَّنَا مَحْكُومٌ عَلَيْنَا بِالْمَوْتِ. لأَنَّنَا صِرْنَا مَنْظَرًا لِلْعَالَمِ، لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ.
غَيْرَ أَنَّكُمْ فَعَلْتُمْ حَسَنًا إِذِ اشْتَرَكْتُمْ فِي ضِيقَتِي.
وَآخَرُونَ تَجَرَّبُوا فِي هُزُءٍ وَجَلْدٍ، ثُمَّ فِي قُيُودٍ أَيْضًا وَحَبْسٍ.
اِسْمَعُوا لِي يَا عَارِفِي الْبِرِّ، الشَّعْبَ الَّذِي شَرِيعَتِي فِي قَلْبِهِ: لاَ تَخَافُوا مِنْ تَعْيِيرِ النَّاسِ، وَمِنْ شَتَائِمِهِمْ لاَ تَرْتَاعُوا،
قُمْ يَا اَللهُ. أَقِمْ دَعْوَاكَ. اذْكُرْ تَعْيِيرَ الْجَاهِلِ إِيَّاكَ الْيَوْمَ كُلَّهُ.
كَمَا يَحِقُّ لِي أَنْ أَفْتَكِرَ هذَا مِنْ جِهَةِ جَمِيعِكُمْ، لأَنِّي حَافِظُكُمْ فِي قَلْبِي، فِي وُثُقِي، وَفِي الْمُحَامَاةِ عَنِ الإِنْجِيلِ وَتَثْبِيتِهِ، أَنْتُمُ الَّذِينَ جَمِيعُكُمْ شُرَكَائِي فِي النِّعْمَةِ.
لِذلِكَ أُسَرُّ بِالضَّعَفَاتِ وَالشَّتَائِمِ وَالضَّرُورَاتِ وَالاضْطِهَادَاتِ وَالضِّيقَاتِ لأَجْلِ الْمَسِيحِ. لأَنِّي حِينَمَا أَنَا ضَعِيفٌ فَحِينَئِذٍ أَنَا قَوِيٌّ.
فَاسْمَعْ يَا يَهُوشَعُ الْكَاهِنُ الْعَظِيمُ أَنْتَ وَرُفَقَاؤُكَ الْجَالِسُونَ أَمَامَكَ، لأَنَّهُمْ رِجَالُ آيَةٍ، لأَنِّي هأَنَذَا آتِي بِعَبْدِي «الْغُصْنِ».
فَإِنِّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الإِخْوَةُ صِرْتُمْ مُتَمَثِّلِينَ بِكَنَائِسِ اللهِ الَّتِي هِيَ فِي الْيَهُودِيَّةِ فِي الْمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ، لأَنَّكُمْ تَأَلَّمْتُمْ أَنْتُمْ أَيْضًا مِنْ أَهْلِ عَشِيرَتِكُمْ تِلْكَ الآلاَمَ عَيْنَهَا، كَمَا هُمْ أَيْضًا مِنَ الْيَهُودِ،
حَاسِبًا عَارَ الْمَسِيحِ غِنًى أَعْظَمَ مِنْ خَزَائِنِ مِصْرَ، لأَنَّهُ كَانَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى الْمُجَازَاةِ.
