لأَنْ لَيْسَ الَّذِينَ يَسْمَعُونَ النَّامُوسَ هُمْ أَبْرَارٌ عِنْدَ اللهِ، بَلِ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ بِالنَّامُوسِ هُمْ يُبَرَّرُونَ.

For not the hearers, &c.--As touching the Jews, in whose ears the written law is continually resounding, the condemnation of as many of them as are found sinners at the last involves no difficulty; but even as respects the heathen, who are strangers to the law in its positive and written form--since they show how deeply it is engraven on their moral nature, which witnesses within them for righteousness and against iniquity, accusing or condemning them according as they violate or obey its stern dictates--their condemnation also for all the sin in which they live and die will carry its dreadful echo in their own breasts.
افتح المصدر ↗The scope of the first two chapters of this epistle may be gathered from Rom 3:9, "We have before proved both Jews and Gentiles that they are all under sin." This we have proved upon the Gentiles (ch. 1), now in this chapter he proves it upon the Jews, as appears by Rom 2:17, "thou art called a Jew." I. He proves in general that Jews and Gentiles stand upon the same level before the justice of God, to Rom 2:11. II. He shows more particularly what sins the Jews were guilty of, notwithstanding their profession and vain pretensions (Rom 2:17 to the end).

أَيُّهَا الأَوْلاَدُ، لاَ يُضِلَّكُمْ أَحَدٌ: مَنْ يَفْعَلُ الْبِرَّ فَهُوَ بَارٌّ، كَمَا أَنَّ ذَاكَ بَارٌّ.
فَإِنَّ الْخِتَانَ يَنْفَعُ إِنْ عَمِلْتَ بِالنَّامُوسِ. وَلكِنْ إِنْ كُنْتَ مُتَعَدِّيًا النَّامُوسَ، فَقَدْ صَارَ خِتَانُكَ غُرْلَةً!
إِذْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّ الإِنْسَانَ لاَ يَتَبَرَّرُ بِأَعْمَالِ النَّامُوسِ، بَلْ بِإِيمَانِ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ، آمَنَّا نَحْنُ أَيْضًا بِيَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ، لِنَتَبَرَّرَ بِإِيمَانِ يَسُوعَ لاَ بِأَعْمَالِ النَّامُوسِ. لأَنَّهُ بِأَعْمَالِ النَّامُوسِ لاَ يَتَبَرَّرُ جَسَدٌ مَا.
لأَنَّ مُوسَى يَكْتُبُ فِي الْبِرِّ الَّذِي بِالنَّامُوسِ: «إِنَّ الإِنْسَانَ الَّذِي يَفْعَلُهَا سَيَحْيَا بِهَا».
فَأَجَابَ وَقَالَ لَهُمْ:«أُمِّي وَإِخْوَتِي هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَسْمَعُونَ كَلِمَةَ اللهِ وَيَعْمَلُونَ بِهَا».
إِنْ عَلِمْتُمْ أَنَّهُ بَارٌّ هُوَ، فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ كُلَّ مَنْ يَصْنَعُ الْبِرَّ مَوْلُودٌ مِنْهُ.
وَأَعْطَيْتُهُمْ فَرَائِضِي وَعَرَّفْتُهُمْ أَحْكَامِي الَّتِي إِنْ عَمِلَهَا إِنْسَانٌ يَحْيَا بِهَا.
«فَالآنَ يَا إِسْرَائِيلُ اسْمَعِ الْفَرَائِضَ وَالأَحْكَامَ الَّتِي أَنَا أُعَلِّمُكُمْ لِتَعْمَلُوهَا، لِكَيْ تَحْيَوْا وَتَدْخُلُوا وَتَمْتَلِكُوا الأَرْضَ الَّتِي الرَّبُّ إِلهُ آبَائِكُمْ يُعْطِيكُمْ.
وَلاَ تَدْخُلْ فِي الْمُحَاكَمَةِ مَعَ عَبْدِكَ، فَإِنَّهُ لَنْ يَتَبَرَّرَ قُدَّامَكَ حَيٌّ.
وَبِهذَا يَتَبَرَّرُ كُلُّ مَنْ يُؤْمِنُ مِنْ كُلِّ مَا لَمْ تَقْدِرُوا أَنْ تَتَبَرَّرُوا مِنْهُ بِنَامُوسِ مُوسَى.
