For, for this cause pay ye--rather, "ye pay" tribute also--that is, "This is the reason why ye pay the contributions requisite for maintaining the civil government." for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing--"to this very thing."

I. A lesson of subjection to lawful authority (Rom 13:1-6). II. A lesson of justice and love to our brethren (Rom 13:7-10). III. افتح المصدر ↗13:6 Pay your taxes: Jesus referred to paying taxes in his famous pronouncement about the disciples’ relationship to government (Matt 22:21). A tax revolt occurred in Rome at about the time that Paul was writing, so Paul’s whole discussion of the Christian’s responsibility to government might have been sparked by his knowledge that Roman Christians were participating in this tax revolt (see Tacitus, Annals 13).

وَابْتَدَأُوا يَشْتَكُونَ عَلَيْهِ قَائِلِينَ:«إِنَّنَا وَجَدْنَا هذَا يُفْسِدُ الأُمَّةَ، وَيَمْنَعُ أَنْ تُعْطَى جِزْيَةٌ لِقَيْصَرَ، قَائِلاً: إِنَّهُ هُوَ مَسِيحٌ مَلِكٌ».

وَقَدْ صَدَرَ مِنِّي أَمْرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ مَعَ شُيُوخِ الْيَهُودِ هؤُلاَءِ فِي بِنَاءِ بَيْتِ اللهِ هذَا. فَمِنْ مَالِ الْمَلِكِ، مِنْ جِزْيَةِ عَبْرِ النَّهْرِ، تُعْطَ النَّفَقَةُ عَاجِلاً لِهؤُلاَءِ الرِّجَالِ حَتَّى لاَ يَبْطُلُوا.
لِيَكُنِ الآنَ مَعْلُومًا لَدَى الْمَلِكِ أَنَّهُ إِذَا بُنِيَتْ هذِهِ الْمَدِينَةُ وَأُكْمِلَتْ أَسْوَارُهَا لاَ يُؤَدُّونَ جِزْيَةً وَلاَ خَرَاجًا وَلاَ خِفَارَةً، فَأَخِيرًا تَضُرُّ الْمُلُوكَ.
أَمِ الْوَاعِظُ فَفِي الْوَعْظِ، الْمُعْطِي فَبِسَخَاءٍ، الْمُدَبِّرُ فَبِاجْتِهَادٍ، الرَّاحِمُ فَبِسُرُورٍ.
وَقَدْ كَانَ مُلُوكٌ مُقْتَدِرُونَ عَلَى أُورُشَلِيمَ وَتَسَلَّطُوا عَلَى جَمِيعِ عَبْرِ النَّهْرِ، وَقَدْ أُعْطُوا جِزْيَةً وَخَرَاجًا وَخِفَارَةً.
فَجَاءَ أَرَامُ دِمَشْقَ لِنَجْدَةِ هَدَدَ عَزَرَ مَلِكِ صُوبَةَ، فَضَرَبَ دَاوُدُ مِنْ أَرَامَ اثْنَيْنَ وَعِشْرِينَ أَلْفَ رَجُل.
وَكَانَ مَنْ يَقُولُ: «قَدِ اسْتَقْرَضْنَا فِضَّةً لِخَرَاجِ الْمَلِكِ عَلَى حُقُولِنَا وَكُرُومِنَا.
