وَقَامَ وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمُ اسْمُهُ أَغَابُوسُ، وَأَشَارَ بِالرُّوحِ أَنَّ جُوعًا عَظِيمًا كَانَ عَتِيدًا أَنْ يَصِيرَ عَلَى جَمِيعِ الْمَسْكُونَةِ، الَّذِي صَارَ أَيْضًا فِي أَيَّامِ كُلُودِيُوسَ قَيْصَرَ.

that there should be great dearth throughout all the world--the whole Roman empire. which came to pass in the days of Claudius CÃ&brvbrsar--Four famines occurred during his reign. This one in Judea and the adjacent countries took place, A.D. 41 [JOSEPHUS, Antiquities, 20.2,5]. An important date for tracing out the chronology of the Acts. (But this subject is too difficult and extensive to admit of being handled here).

Peter's necessary vindication of what he did in receiving Cornelius and his friends into the church, from the censure he lay under for it among the brethren, and their acquiescence in it (v. 1-18). II. The good success of the gospel at Antioch, and the parts adjacent (Act 11:19-21). III. The carrying on of the good work that was begun at Antioch, by the ministry of Barnabas first, and afterwards of Paul in conjunction with him, and the lasting name of Christian first given to the disciples there (Act 11:22-26). IV. A prediction of an approaching famine, and the contribution that was made among the Gentile converts for the relief of the poor saints in Judea, upon that occasion (Act 11:27-30).

وَبَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مُقِيمُونَ أَيَّامًا كَثِيرَةً، انْحَدَرَ مِنَ الْيَهُودِيَّةِ نَبِيٌّ اسْمُهُ أَغَابُوسُ.
فَوَجَدَ يَهُودِيًّا اسْمُهُ أَكِيلاَ، بُنْطِيَّ الْجِنْسِ، كَانَ قَدْ جَاءَ حَدِيثًا مِنْ إِيطَالِيَة، وَبِرِيسْكِلاَّ امْرَأَتَهُ، لأَنَّ كُلُودِيُوسَ كَانَ قَدْ أَمَرَ أَنْ يَمْضِيَ جَمِيعُ الْيَهُودِ مِنْ رُومِيَةَ، فَجَاءَ إِلَيْهِمَا.
وَفِي السَّنَةِ الْخَامِسَةِ عَشْرَةَ مِنْ سَلْطَنَةِ طِيبَارِيُوسَ قَيْصَرَ، إِذْ كَانَ بِيلاَطُسُ الْبُنْطِيُّ وَالِيًا عَلَى الْيَهُودِيَّةِ، وَهِيرُودُسُ رَئِيسَ رُبْعٍ عَلَى الْجَلِيلِ، وَفِيلُبُّسُ أَخُوهُ رَئِيسَ رُبْعٍ عَلَى إِيطُورِيَّةَ وَكُورَةِ تَرَاخُونِيتِسَ، وَلِيسَانِيُوسُ رَئِيسَ رُبْعٍ عَلَى الأَبِلِيَّةِ،
وَفِي تِلْكَ الأَيَّامِ صَدَرَ أَمْرٌ مِنْ أُوغُسْطُسَ قَيْصَرَ بِأَنْ يُكْتَتَبَ كُلُّ الْمَسْكُونَةِ.
فَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ لِعَبِيدِهِ: «هَلْ نَجِدُ مِثْلَ هذَا رَجُلاً فِيهِ رُوحُ اللهِ؟»
وَيُكْرَزُ بِبِشَارَةِ الْمَلَكُوتِ هذِهِ فِي كُلِّ الْمَسْكُونَةِ شَهَادَةً لِجَمِيعِ الأُمَمِ. ثُمَّ يَأْتِي الْمُنْتَهَى.
