John not yet cast into prison--Hence it is plain that our Lord's ministry did not commence with the imprisonment of John, though, but for this, we should have drawn that inference from Mat 4:12 and Mark's (Mar 1:14) express statement.

John Baptist's discourse with his disciples concerning Christ, upon occasion of his coming into the neighbourhood where John was (Joh 3:22-36), in which he fairly and faithfully resigns all his honour and interest to him.

لأَنَّ هِيرُودُسَ نَفْسَهُ كَانَ قَدْ أَرْسَلَ وَأَمْسَكَ يُوحَنَّا وَأَوْثَقَهُ فِي السِّجْنِ مِنْ أَجْلِ هِيرُودِيَّا امْرَأَةِ فِيلُبُّسَ أَخِيهِ، إِذْ كَانَ قَدْ تَزَوَّجَ بِهَا.
