وَأَمَّا هُمْ فَلَمْ يَفْهَمُوا هذَا الْقَوْلَ، وَكَانَ مُخْفىً عَنْهُمْ لِكَيْ لاَ يَفْهَمُوهُ، وَخَافُوا أَنْ يَسْأَلُوهُ عَنْ هذَا الْقَوْلِ.

and they feared--"insomuch that they feared." Their most cherished ideas were so completely dashed by such announcements, that they were afraid of laying themselves open to rebuke by asking Him any questions.

وَهذِهِ الأُمُورُ لَمْ يَفْهَمْهَا تَلاَمِيذُهُ أَوَّلاً، وَلكِنْ لَمَّا تَمَجَّدَ يَسُوعُ، حِينَئِذٍ تَذَكَّرُوا أَنَّ هذِهِ كَانَتْ مَكْتُوبَةً عَنْهُ، وَأَنَّهُمْ صَنَعُوا هذِهِ لَهُ.
وَأَمَّا هُمْ فَلَمْ يَفْهَمُوا الْقَوْلَ، وَخَافُوا أَنْ يَسْأَلُوهُ.
فَحَفِظُوا الْكَلِمَةَ لأَنْفُسِهِمْ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ:«مَا هُوَ الْقِيَامُ مِنَ الأَمْوَاتِ؟»
فَأَجَابَهُ الْجَمْعُ: «نَحْنُ سَمِعْنَا مِنَ النَّامُوسِ أَنَّ الْمَسِيحَ يَبْقَى إِلَى الأَبَدِ، فَكَيْفَ تَقُولُ أَنْتَ إِنَّهُ يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَرْتَفِعَ ابْنُ الإِنْسَانِ؟ مَنْ هُوَ هذَا ابْنُ الإِنْسَانِ؟»
فَأَخَذَهُ بُطْرُسُ إِلَيْهِ وَابْتَدَأَ يَنْتَهِرُهُ قَائِلاً:«حَاشَاكَ يَارَبُّ! لاَ يَكُونُ لَكَ هذَا!»
قَالَ لَهُ تُومَا:«يَا سَيِّدُ، لَسْنَا نَعْلَمُ أَيْنَ تَذْهَبُ، فَكَيْفَ نَقْدِرُ أَنْ نَعْرِفَ الطَّرِيقَ؟»
وَدَاخَلَهُمْ فِكْرٌ مَنْ عَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ أَعْظَمَ فِيهِمْ؟
