فَلَمَّا اقْتَرَبَ إِلَى بَابِ الْمَدِينَةِ، إِذَا مَيْتٌ مَحْمُولٌ، ابْنٌ وَحِيدٌ لأُمِّهِ، وَهِيَ أَرْمَلَةٌ وَمَعَهَا جَمْعٌ كَثِيرٌ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ.

carried out--"was being carried out." Dead bodies, being ceremonially unclean, were not allowed to be buried within the cities (though the kings of David's house were buried m the city of David), and the funeral was usually on the same day as the death. only son, &c.--affecting particulars, told with delightful simplicity.

Christ confirming the doctrine he had preached in the former chapter, with two glorious miracles - the curing of one at a distance, and that was the centurion's servant (Luk 7:1-10), and the raising of one to life that was dead, the widow's son at Nain (Luk 7:11-18). II. Christ confirming the faith of John who was now in prison, and of some of his disciples, by sending him a short account of the miracles he wrought, in answer to a question he received from him (Luk 7:19-23), to which he adds an honourable testimony concerning John, and a just reproof to the men of that generation for the contempt they put upon him and his doctrine (Luk 7:24-35). III. Christ comforting a poor penitent that applied herself to him, all in tears of godly sorrow for sin, assuring her that her sins were pardoned, and justifying himself in the favour he showed her against the cavils of a proud Pharisee (Luk 7:36-50).
افتح المصدر ↗7:12 A funeral procession: In Judaism, a large crowd of mourners and intense wailing signified great love for the deceased. Mourners were hired in some cases. • Widows were the most vulnerable members of society, and God had special concern for them (Exod 22:22; Deut 10:18; 27:19). This widow’s only son was her means of support and hope for the future; his death was a terrible loss (see Jer 6:26; Amos 8:10; Zech 12:10).

وَكَانَ الْجَمِيعُ يَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهَا وَيَلْطِمُونَ. فَقَالَ:«لاَ تَبْكُوا. لَمْ تَمُتْ لكِنَّهَا نَائِمَةٌ».
لأَنَّهُ كَانَ لَهُ بِنْتٌ وَحِيدَةٌ لَهَا نَحْوُ اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً، وَكَانَتْ فِي حَالِ الْمَوْتِ. فَفِيمَا هُوَ مُنْطَلِقٌ زَحَمَتْهُ الْجُمُوعُ.
فَنَاوَلَهَا يَدَهُ وَأَقَامَهَا. ثُمَّ نَادَى الْقِدِّيسِينَ وَالأَرَامِلَ وَأَحْضَرَهَا حَيَّةً.
بَرَكَةُ الْهَالِكِ حَلَّتْ عَلَيَّ، وَجَعَلْتُ قَلْبَ الأَرْمَلَةِ يُسَرُّ.
وَهُوَذَا الْعَشِيرَةُ كُلُّهَا قَدْ قَامَتْ عَلَى جَارِيَتِكَ وَقَالُوا: سَلِّمِي ضَارِبَ أَخِيهِ لِنَقْتُلَهُ بِنَفْسِ أَخِيهِ الَّذِي قَتَلَهُ، فَنُهْلِكَ الْوَارِثَ أَيْضًا. فَيُطْفِئُونَ جَمْرَتِي الَّتِي بَقِيَتْ، وَلاَ يَتْرُكُونَ لِرَجُلِي اسْمًا وَلاَ بَقِيَّةً عَلَى وَجْهِ الأَرْضِ».
فَقَامَ بُطْرُسُ وَجَاءَ مَعَهُمَا. فَلَمَّا وَصَلَ صَعِدُوا بِهِ إِلَى الْعِلِّيَّةِ، فَوَقَفَتْ لَدَيْهِ جَمِيعُ الأَرَامِلِ يَبْكِينَ وَيُرِينَ أَقْمِصَةً وَثِيَابًا مِمَّا كَانَتْ تَعْمَلُ غَزَالَةُ وَهِيَ مَعَهُنَّ.
«قُمِ اذْهَبْ إِلَى صِرْفَةَ الَّتِي لِصِيدُونَ وَأَقِمْ هُنَاكَ. هُوَذَا قَدْ أَمَرْتُ هُنَاكَ أَرْمَلَةً أَنْ تَعُولَكَ».
فَقَالَ: «فِي هذَا الْمِيعَادِ نَحْوَ زَمَانِ الْحَيَاةِ تَحْتَضِنِينَ ابْنًا». فَقَالَتْ: «لاَ يَا سَيِّدِي رَجُلَ اللهِ. لاَ تَكْذِبْ عَلَى جَارِيَتِكَ».
فَحَمَلَهُ وَأَتَى بِهِ إِلَى أُمِّهِ، فَجَلَسَ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهَا إِلَى الظُّهْرِ وَمَاتَ.
فَقَالَ: «خُذِ ابْنَكَ وَحِيدَكَ، الَّذِي تُحِبُّهُ، إِسْحَاقَ، وَاذْهَبْ إِلَى أَرْضِ الْمُرِيَّا، وَأَصْعِدْهُ هُنَاكَ مُحْرَقَةً عَلَى أَحَدِ الْجِبَالِ الَّذِي أَقُولُ لَكَ».
