وَأَمَّا أَهْلُ مَدِينَتِهِ فَكَانُوا يُبْغِضُونَهُ، فَأَرْسَلُوا وَرَاءَهُ سَفَارَةً قَائِلِينَ: لاَ نُرِيدُ أَنَّ هذَا يَمْلِكُ عَلَيْنَا.

his citizens--His proper subjects; meaning the Jews, who expressly repudiating our Lord's claims said, "We have no king but CÃ&brvbrsar" (Joh 19:15). In Christendom, these correspond to infidel rejecters of Christianity, as distinguished from professed Christians.

فَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِصَمُوئِيلَ: «اسْمَعْ لِصَوْتِ الشَّعْبِ فِي كُلِّ مَا يَقُولُونَ لَكَ، لأَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَرْفُضُوكَ أَنْتَ بَلْ إِيَّايَ رَفَضُوا حَتَّى لاَ أَمْلِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ.
«إِنْ كَانَ الْعَالَمُ يُبْغِضُكُمْ فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّهُ قَدْ أَبْغَضَنِي قَبْلَكُمْ.
إِلَى خَاصَّتِهِ جَاءَ، وَخَاصَّتُهُ لَمْ تَقْبَلْهُ.
أَمَّا أَعْدَائِي، أُولئِكَ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يُرِيدُوا أَنْ أَمْلِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَأْتُوا بِهِمْ إِلَى هُنَا وَاذْبَحُوهُمْ قُدَّامِي».
وَأَبَدْتُ الرُّعَاةَ الثَّلاَثَةَ فِي شَهْرٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَضَاقَتْ نَفْسِي بِهِمْ، وَكَرِهَتْنِي أَيْضًا نَفْسُهُمْ.
هكَذَا قَالَ الرَّبُّ فَادِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، قُدُّوسُهُ، لِلْمُهَانِ النَّفْسِ، لِمَكْرُوهِ الأُمَّةِ، لِعَبْدِ الْمُتَسَلِّطِينَ: «يَنْظُرُ مُلُوكٌ فَيَقُومُونَ. رُؤَسَاءُ فَيَسْجُدُونَ. لأَجْلِ الرَّبِّ الَّذِي هُوَ أَمِينٌ، وَقُدُّوسِ إِسْرَائِيلَ الَّذِي قَدِ اخْتَارَكَ».
