He was only to marry a woman in her virginity, not a widow, a woman put away, or a fallen woman, a whore (זונה without a copulative is in apposition to חללה a fallen girl, who was to be the same to him as a whore), but "a virgin of his own people," that is to say, only an Israelitish woman.
افتح المصدر ↗This chapter might borrow its title from Mal 2:1, "And now, O you priests, this commandment is for you." It is a law obliging priests with the utmost care and jealousy to preserve the dignity of their priesthood. I. The inferior priests are here charged both concerning their mourning and concerning their marriages and their children (Lev 21:1-9). II. The high priest is restrained more than any of them (Lev 21:10-15). III. Neither the one nor the other must have any blemish (Lev 21:16, etc.).

وَلاَ يَأْخُذُونَ أَرْمَلَةً وَلاَ مُطَلَّقَةً زَوْجَةً، بَلْ يَتَّخِذُونَ عَذَارَى مِنْ نَسْلِ بَيْتِ إِسْرَائِيلَ، أَوْ أَرْمَلَةً الَّتِي كَانَتْ أَرْمَلَةَ كَاهِنٍ.

هؤُلاَءِ هُمُ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يَتَنَجَّسُوا مَعَ النِّسَاءِ لأَنَّهُمْ أَطْهَارٌ. هؤُلاَءِ هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَتْبَعُونَ الْخَرُوفَ حَيْثُمَا ذَهَبَ. هؤُلاَءِ اشْتُرُوا مِنْ بَيْنِ النَّاسِ بَاكُورَةً ِللهِ وَلِلْخَرُوفِ.
إِمْرَأَةً زَانِيَةً أَوْ مُدَنَّسَةً لاَ يَأْخُذُوا، وَلاَ يَأْخُذُوا امْرَأَةً مُطَلَّقَةً مِنْ زَوْجِهَا. لأَنَّهُ مُقَدَّسٌ لإِلهِهِ.
