« يَمُدُّونَ أَلْسِنَتَهُمْ كَقِسِيِّهِمْ لِلْكَذِبِ. لاَ لِلْحَقِّ قَوُوا فِي الأَرْضِ. لأَنَّهُمْ خَرَجُوا مِنْ شَرّ إِلَى شَرّ، وَإِيَّايَ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا، يَقُولُ الرَّبُّ.

In this chapter the prophet goes on faithfully to reprove sin and to threaten God's judgments for it, and yet bitterly to lament both, as one that neither rejoiced at iniquity nor was glad at calamities. I. He here expresses his great grief for the miseries of Judah and Jerusalem, and his detestation of their sins, which brought those miseries upon them (Jer 9:1-11). II. He justifies God in the greatness of the destruction brought upon them (Jer 9:9-16). III. He calls upon others to bewail the woeful case of Judah and Jerusalem (Jer 9:17-22). IV. He shows them the folly and vanity of trusting in their own strength or wisdom, or the privileges of their circumcision, or any thing but God only (Jer 9:23-26).

Jeremiah interrupted the Lord’s speech twice to respond to the Lord’s messages (9:10, 12). 9:3 The Lord did not scold Jeremiah for his outburst. Instead, the Lord recited the guilty charges against his people. • The comparison with bows indicates that the people’s lies were deliberately aimed to harm their targets.

«لأَنَّ شَعْبِي أَحْمَقُ. إِيَّايَ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا. هُمْ بَنُونَ جَاهِلُونَ وَهُمْ غَيْرُ فَاهِمِينَ. هُمْ حُكَمَاءُ فِي عَمَلِ الشَّرِّ، وَلِعَمَلِ الصَّالِحِ مَا يَفْهَمُونَ».
لِسَانُهُمْ سَهْمٌ قَتَّالٌ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِالْغِشِّ. بِفَمِهِ يُكَلِّمُ صَاحِبَهُ بِسَلاَمٍ، وَفِي قَلْبِهِ يَضَعُ لَهُ كَمِينًا.
وَكُلُّ ذلِكَ الْجِيلِ أَيْضًا انْضَمَّ إِلَى آبَائِهِ، وَقَامَ بَعْدَهُمْ جِيلٌ آخَرُ لَمْ يَعْرِفِ الرَّبَّ، وَلاَ الْعَمَلَ الَّذِي عَمِلَ لإِسْرَائِيلَ.
حَنْجَرَتُهُمْ قَبْرٌ مَفْتُوحٌ. بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ قَدْ مَكَرُوا. سِمُّ الأَصْلاَلِ تَحْتَ شِفَاهِهِمْ.
وَكَانَ بَنُو عَالِي بَنِي بَلِيَّعَالَ، لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا الرَّبَّ
وَلكِنَّ النَّاسَ الأَشْرَارَ الْمُزَوِّرِينَ سَيَتَقَدَّمُونَ إِلَى أَرْدَأَ، مُضِلِّينَ وَمُضَلِّينَ.
وَكَمَا لَمْ يَسْتَحْسِنُوا أَنْ يُبْقُوا اللهَ فِي مَعْرِفَتِهِمْ، أَسْلَمَهُمُ اللهُ إِلَى ذِهْنٍ مَرْفُوضٍ لِيَفْعَلُوا مَا لاَ يَلِيقُ.
وَهُمْ غَلَبُوهُ بِدَمِ الْخَرُوفِ وَبِكَلِمَةِ شَهَادَتِهِمْ، وَلَمْ يُحِبُّوا حَيَاتَهُمْ حَتَّى الْمَوْتِ.
فَلَمْ يَسْمَعُوا لِي وَلَمْ يُمِيلُوا أُذُنَهُمْ، بَلْ صَلَّبُوا رِقَابَهُمْ. أَسَاءُوا أَكْثَرَ مِنْ آبَائِهِمْ.
لأَنِّي لَسْتُ أَسْتَحِي بِإِنْجِيلِ الْمَسِيحِ، لأَنَّهُ قُوَّةُ اللهِ لِلْخَلاَصِ لِكُلِّ مَنْ يُؤْمِنُ: لِلْيَهُودِيِّ أَوَّلاً ثُمَّ لِلْيُونَانِيِّ.
