"The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah, yea it is great; and their sin, yea it is very grievous." The cry is the appeal for vengeance or punishment, which ascends to heaven (Gen 4:10). The כּי serves to give emphasis to the assertion, and is placed in the middle of the sentence to give the greater prominence to the leading thought (cf. Ewald, 330).

لأَنَّنَا مُهْلِكَانِ هذَا الْمَكَانَ، إِذْ قَدْ عَظُمَ صُرَاخُهُمْ أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ، فَأَرْسَلَنَا الرَّبُّ لِنُهْلِكَهُ».
نَظَرُ وُجُوهِهِمْ يَشْهَدُ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَهُمْ يُخْبِرُونَ بِخَطِيَّتِهِمْ كَسَدُومَ. لاَ يُخْفُونَهَا. وَيْلٌ لِنُفُوسِهِمْ لأَنَّهُمْ يَصْنَعُونَ لأَنْفُسِهِمْ شَرًّا.
وَكَانَ أَهْلُ سَدُومَ أَشْرَارًا وَخُطَاةً لَدَى الرَّبِّ جِدًّا.
فَقَالَ: «مَاذَا فَعَلْتَ؟ صَوْتُ دَمِ أَخِيكَ صَارِخٌ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الأَرْضِ.
هُوَذَا أُجْرَةُ الْفَعَلَةِ الَّذِينَ حَصَدُوا حُقُولَكُمُ، الْمَبْخُوسَةُ مِنْكُمْ تَصْرُخُ، وَصِيَاحُ الْحَصَّادِينَ قَدْ دَخَلَ إِلَى أُذْنَيْ رَبِّ الْجُنُودِ.
إِنَّ كَرْمَ رَبِّ الْجُنُودِ هُوَ بَيْتُ إِسْرَائِيلَ، وَغَرْسَ لَذَّتِهِ رِجَالُ يَهُوذَا. فَانْتَظَرَ حَقًّا فَإِذَا سَفْكُ دَمٍ، وَعَدْلاً فَإِذَا صُرَاخٌ.
وَإِنْ تَكُنْ آثَامُنَا تَشْهَدُ عَلَيْنَا يَا رَبُّ، فَاعْمَلْ لأَجْلِ اسْمِكَ. لأَنَّ مَعَاصِيَنَا كَثُرَتْ. إِلَيْكَ أَخْطَأْنَا.
