I. The Return of the Jews from Babylon under Cyrus. Restoration of the Temple and of the Worship of God at Jerusalem - Ezr 1:1 When the seventy years of the Babylonian captivity had elapsed, King Cyrus, by an edict published in the first year of his rule over Babylon, gave permission to all the Jews in his whole realm to return to their native land, and called upon them to rebuild the temple of God at Jerusalem. The execution of this royal and gracious decree by the Jews forms the subject of the first part of this book - Ezr 1:1-11 and 2 treating of the return of a considerable number of families of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi, under the conduct of Zerubbabel the prince and Joshua the high priest, to Jerusalem and Judaea; the remaining chapters, Ezra 3-6, of the restoration of the worship of God, and of the rebuilding of the temple.

The proclamation which Cyrus, king of Persia, issued out for the release of all the Jews that he found captives in Babylon, and the building of their temple in Jerusalem (Ezr 1:1-4). II. The return of many thereupon (Ezr 1:5, Ezr 1:6). III. Orders given for the restoring of the vessels of the temple (Ezr 1:7-11). And this is the dawning of the day of their deliverance.
افتح المصدر ↗1:2 Though Cyrus speaks of the Lord, the God of heaven, Cyrus actually was a Zoroastrian. His proclamation, written in Hebrew, was probably political propaganda to gain Jewish support for his rule. In a similar statement to the Babylonians, Cyrus claimed to worship their chief god, Marduk. However, his words here do reflect that God had appointed him to build him a Temple at Jerusalem (see Isa 44:28; 45:1, 13). He might have learned of such prophecies from Daniel, who served in his court as a high government official (Cyrus is apparently referred to by his Median name, Darius, in Dan 6:1-28; 9:1). God had long planned to raise up Cyrus and give him a vision to restore worship at Jerusalem (Isa 44:28; 45:13; 48:14-15).

بَلْ تَعَظَّمْتَ عَلَى رَبِّ السَّمَاءِ، فَأَحْضَرُوا قُدَّامَكَ آنِيَةَ بَيْتِهِ، وَأَنْتَ وَعُظَمَاؤُكَ وَزَوْجَاتُكَ وَسَرَارِيكَ شَرِبْتُمْ بِهَا الْخَمْرَ، وَسَبَّحْتَ آلِهَةَ الْفِضَّةِ وَالذَّهَبِ وَالنِّحَاسِ وَالْحَدِيدِ وَالْخَشَبِ وَالْحَجَرِ الَّتِي لاَ تُبْصِرُ وَلاَ تَسْمَعُ وَلاَ تَعْرِفُ. أَمَّا اللهُ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ نَسَمَتُكَ، وَلَهُ كُلُّ طُرُقِكَ فَلَمْ تُمَجِّدْهُ.
هكَذَا تَقُولُونَ لَهُمْ: «الآلِهَةُ الَّتِي لَمْ تَصْنَعِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ تَبِيدُ مِنَ الأَرْضِ وَمِنْ تَحْتِ هذِهِ السَّمَاوَاتِ»
هكَذَا قَالَ الرَّبُّ: «السَّمَاوَاتُ كُرْسِيِّي، وَالأَرْضُ مَوْطِئُ قَدَمَيَّ. أَيْنَ الْبَيْتُ الَّذِي تَبْنُونَ لِي؟ وَأَيْنَ مَكَانُ رَاحَتِي؟
وَهُوَ يُغَيِّرُ الأَوْقَاتَ وَالأَزْمِنَةَ. يَعْزِلُ مُلُوكًا وَيُنَصِّبُ مُلُوكًا. يُعْطِي الْحُكَمَاءَ حِكْمَةً، وَيُعَلِّمُ الْعَارِفِينَ فَهْمًا.
وَقَالَ حُورَامُ: «مُبَارَكٌ الرَّبُّ إِلهُ إِسْرَائِيلَ الَّذِي صَنَعَ السَّمَاءَ وَالأَرْضَ، الَّذِي أَعْطَى دَاوُدَ الْمَلِكَ ابْنًا حَكِيمًا صَاحِبَ مَعْرِفَةٍ وَفَهْمٍ، الَّذِي يَبْنِي بَيْتًا لِلرَّبِّ وَبَيْتًا لِمُلْكِهِ.
يَطْرُدُونَكَ مِنْ بَيْنِ النَّاسِ، وَتَكُونُ سُكْنَاكَ مَعَ حَيَوَانِ الْبَرِّ وَيُطْعِمُونَكَ الْعُشْبَ كَالثِّيرَانِ، وَيَبُلُّونَكَ بِنَدَى السَّمَاءِ، فَتَمْضِي عَلَيْكَ سَبْعَةُ أَزْمِنَةٍ حَتَّى تَعْلَمَ أَنَّ الْعَلِيَّ مُتَسَلِّطٌ فِي مَمْلَكَةِ النَّاسِ وَيُعْطِيهَا مَنْ يَشَاءُ.
لكِنْ يُوجَدُ إِلهٌ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ كَاشِفُ الأَسْرَارِ، وَقَدْ عَرَّفَ الْمَلِكَ نَبُوخَذْنَصَّرَ مَا يَكُونُ فِي الأَيَّامِ الأَخِيرَةِ. حُلْمُكَ وَرُؤْيَا رَأْسِكَ عَلَى فِرَاشِكَ هُوَ هذَا:
لأَنَّهُ هَلْ يَسْكُنُ اللهُ حَقًّا عَلَى الأَرْضِ؟ هُوَذَا السَّمَاوَاتُ وَسَمَاءُ السَّمَاوَاتِ لاَ تَسَعُكَ، فَكَمْ بِالأَقَلِّ هذَا الْبَيْتُ الَّذِي بَنَيْتُ؟
وَيَطْرُدُونَكَ مِنْ بَيْنِ النَّاسِ، وَتَكُونُ سُكْنَاكَ مَعَ حَيَوَانِ الْبَرِّ، وَيُطْعِمُونَكَ الْعُشْبَ كَالثِّيرَانِ، فَتَمْضِي عَلَيْكَ سَبْعَةُ أَزْمِنَةٍ حَتَّى تَعْلَمَ أَنَّ الْعَلِيَّ مُتَسَلِّطٌ فِي مَمْلَكَةِ النَّاسِ وَأَنَّهُ يُعْطِيهَا مَنْ يَشَاءُ».
